Donations Being Accepted for New Veterans Memorial
American Legion Post 130 is planning to build a veterans memorial on the corner of Highway 40 and 92. The large memorial will consist of at least four 6’ x 3’ inscribed monuments listing the names of at least 400 veterans. The names of Sons of American Legion and Auxiliary Unit 130 members will be listed on the back of each monument. An inscribed, taller monument will be located in the center, with flags surrounding the circle.
Legion Commander Mike Harvey said that the names of veterans who have a block inside the Legion Hall will all be listed, but any veteran’s name can be added to the list – even if they are from outside of Arnold.
Harvey said the location of the intersection of the highways was chosen so that it will be a focal point for anyone coming or going on the two highways.
The cost of the project is estimated to be $125,000.
Legion Post 130 is currently seeking donations from anyone who would like to help. “The pad was completed this fall and we hope to complete the entire project by early spring of 2025,” said Harvey.
Donations may be made to the Veterans Memorial fund checking account at Pinnacle Bank or given to any Arnold Legion member. Checks may also be made payable to “Veteran’s Memorial Fund” and mailed to Mike Harvey, PO Box 69, Arnold, NE 69120.
For more information, call Mike Harvey at 308-530-1065.
Pictured below is an image that will give everyone an idea of the layout of the planned Arnold Veterans Memorial at the intersection of Highways 92 and 40. The memorial will be in a circular pattern as shown, but the main wall will be different. Legion Post 130 will be working with North Platte Monument Co. on the final design.
