SORC Celebrates 20th Year

Twenty years ago a group of open road racing enthusiasts and community volunteers saw their dream become a reality with the first annual run of the Sandhills Open Road Challenge (SORC). From its humble beginnings in 2001 with a one-day event and 34 entries, SORC has transformed into three days of highly anticipated events and 140+ entries from across the nation.

Events begin Thursday, August 6, with the Loup 2 Loup open road race in Halsey. Friday, August 7, is the One Mile and Half Mile Shootout (south of Callaway), followed by a race car cruise, car show, and burnout contest. The signature event is Saturday morning, followed by a barbecue, awards ceremony, live entertainment and band, and fireworks.
