MEDICAL & RESCUE SERVICES
The Arnold EMTs received a national EMS Gold Award presented in Las Vegas, Nevada, for outstanding volunteer service. The emergency service in Arnold desires to continue to assure a high level of emergency care the people of their community. They do it well. They do it over and over again. And they do it without pay.
VOLUNTEER FIRE & RESCUE
The Arnold community is very fortunate to have an excellent emergency medical service and fire department. The ambulance service and fire department serve a fire district of over 450 square miles with a population of over 1,400. The ambulance transports to Callaway District Hospital, Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, Gothenburg Memorial Hospital, Jennie M. Melham Memorial Hospital in Broken Bow, and Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney if directed by a physician. We also have the option to tier with North Platte Fire Department’s ALS ambulance service if our patients need a higher level of care before we can get to hospital.
Several EMTs have completed an IV certification class, which allows them to administer IV fluid if needed. Arnold is one of the only services in Custer County certified to administer IVs.
Membership in Arnold’s Fire and Rescue Department consists of 23 active members, 16 firefighters, 10 EMT, with some volunteer members trained both as EMTs/firefighters. All members are volunteers. These emergency responders are professional and well-trained, logging over 150 hours per year in emergency training. The firefighters also train extensively with approximately 200 hours of training per year. They respond promptly to an average of 50 emergency calls and 20 fires per year and are very active in service and safety in the community.
The fire department fleet consists of two ambulances, three grass rigs, one crash truck, one pumper, one tanker, one ranger, and one command vehicle.
Arnold belongs to three mutual aid districts: Sandhills Mutual Aid, Mid-Plains Mutual Aid, and Custer County Mutual Aid.
Arnold emergency services strives to assure a high level of emergency care for the people of their community. They do it well, they do it over and over again, and they do it without pay. These citizen volunteers are our guardian angels. If ever you meet one of them, tell them that you appreciate their service.
